The ASSE 6000 Re-Certification Training Program was developed to satisfy the requirements of the ASSE 6000 Professional Qualification Standard. The program is suitable for ANY of the ASSE 6000 certifications for update and renewal. The course is approved by FS Medical Technology and upon completion, NITC will issue re-certification.
The program is a four (4) hour training course and final examination. The course consists of nine (9) training topics, including:
1. Regulatory Codes and Standards Review
2. Patient, Public, and Personnel Safety Guidelines
3. Basic Concepts, Terminology and Definitions
4. Medical Gas System Qualifications
5. The Purpose and Uses of Medical Gases
6. Medical Gas Cylinder and Container Best Practices
7. Medical Gas Systems Performance Criteria and Testing
8. Medical Gas Systems Inspection and Testing Equipment
9. NFPA 99, 2018 Edition Update
The NITC Re-Certification exam will be taken at an approved computer based testing site.
This 24-hour Medical Gas Systems Inspector Certificate Program is offered to qualified individuals who are responsible for inspection of medical gas installations at private and governmental locations. The course reviews all relevant provisions of NFPA 99 with specific emphasis on construction inspection requirements.
Prerequisites for the course : Individuals must be employed by a government organization such as a plumbing and/pr mechanical inspector, or as an administrator of such inspectors, or be a person regularly involved in the design or inspection of medical gas systems.
A 32-hour classroom based curriculum leading to an ASSE 6040 Medical Gas Systems Maintenance Personnel Classification Program certificate. The course includes a study of the NFPA 99 requirements for both level 1 and level 3 medical gas systems. This program was developed to provide qualified individuals with the knowledge required to inspect and maintain medical gas systems. The final examination is administered by NITC - acknowledged as the leading organization for medical gas certifications.
Prerequisites for the course: Individuals must be employed or contracted by a health care facility and have a minimum of one (1) year of documented experience in the inspection or maintenance of medical gas systems.
An alternative 6040 course of study leading to certification issued and approved by the health care facility. This course has been established to train maintenance personnel on medical gas equipment and maintenance specific to the facility.
This course includes three components totaling 17-hours of classroom, e-learning, and on-site training. The course curriculum includes:
Introduction to Medical Gas (group session, classroom session - 3 hours)
1. Alphabet soup: NFPA, CGA, USP, ASSE, and others
2. Medical Gas Definitions
3. General Physics of gases
4. Overview of online tutorials and "tips for success"
E-learning Study Chapters (self directed e-learning - 9 hours)
Online quizzes following each chapter. Comprehensive final exam.

On-site Facility Equipment Review (hands on with facility specific equipment - 4 to 6 hours) FSMT instructors will be on-site at your facility to review maintenance procedures, operational performance standards and equipment specific techniques to effectively service the medical gas system.
FS Medical Technology will issue each participant a certificate of completion and provide the facility's management with documentation to support its certification that the engineering staff has been trained on the facility-specific equipment. The training hours of QuickStudy 6040 can be applied toward meeting the requirements of the ASSE 6040 certificate.
